The beaches around Monopoli are the most attractive part of Bari coastline: a strip of shoreline 13 km long that offers both golden beaches and rocky landscapes, where, hidden between high cliffs, you will find small bays and coves that let you bathe in the blue sea of Puglia which is always crystal clear with its shallow and sandy seabed, from the northernmost part of Cala Corvina to the southernmost part of Capitolo.

Some beaches of Monopoli have become very popular bathing establishments, equipped with any service, others are very difficult to localize, unless you are an expert of the area. So here is a list of the 10 most beautiful beaches in Monopoli and some interesting ideas for your holidays.

1. Cala Porta Vecchia

It is one of the most astonishing and renowned beaches in Monopoli, a few steps from the heart of the city. Characterized by a constantly shallow seabed and clear waters, the beach is easily accessible and very popular among locals. Every year, from September 6 to November 3, Cala Porta Vecchia turns into an open-air art gallery, hosting the PhEst, the international festival of photography.

2. Porto Nero

This cove is a small corner of paradise, surrounded by rocks. Very fine sand, crystal clear water, deep seabottom, it is the ideal beach for those seeking relaxation and tranquility, away from the crowded beaches of the area. It can be reached by a staircase fro lido "La Perla Nera" or, by sea, from Porto Rosso.

3. Porto Bianco

It is located on the southern outskirts of the city. It is a very wide cove, sandy, with shallow sea bottom and clear water: the ideal place for children and young people and this is why it is very popular with families. The access to the beach is allowed by ramps and wooden stairs. It is the perfect starting point to get to the near bays by boat.

4. Porto Rosso

Porto Rosso is one of the most popular coves of Monopoli thanks to its location and its scope. Its beach is covered with fine sand, shallow seabed and crystal clear water that make it particularly suitable for families with small children and for young people. Often, in summertime, concerts are organized here.

5. Cala Paradiso

The entire bay is occupied, almost completely, by beach clubs that offer different services: volleyball, swimming, soccer, basketball tournaments, beach volleyball, soccer and fun-ball. The basin, surrounded by rocks, encloses a mirror of blue water and shallow and sandy seabed. The beaches are reachable from the city by public transport, they also host the summer camps organized by the municipalities of Castellana Grotte and Putignano.

6. Porto Camicia

A small sandy cove with crystal waters, protected by rocks, make this beach perfect for those families who seek tranquility, away from crowds and extreme entertainment. The beach is managed by private individuals and offers many services. Due to its central position, Porto Camicia is easily accessible by public transport.

7. Porto Marzano

Also known as "Picco del Diavolo" (Devil's Peak) because of the large rocky outcrop that overlooks the shore and the rocky walls surrounding it, Porto Marzano is a sandy inlet that can be accessed through a path surrounded by greenery. The water is transparent, not very deep near the shore, becoming bluer and bluer as you move away from the coast and the seabed gradually becomes rocky.

8. Cala Sottile

Its isolated and hidden position makes it a very popular cove for the people living in Monopoli. Moving from inside the camping Santo Stefano, it can be reached by a walking path that continues with a small gravel road surrounding the camping. The beach is immersed in the green, behind it a pine forest always offers shelter and refreshing shadows: even in the windiest days its blue waters are always quiet.

9. Cala Susca

Cala Susca is a beach made of sand and gravel, surrounded by a cliff that can be easily explored on foot. The bottom of the sea is sandy and remains low for several meters after the shore, giving the water a crystal clear color. The flat and smooth rocks which characterize the inlet give the beach an ideal location for pleasant breaks in the sun cooled by the sea breeze.

10. La Scaletta

Cala Susca is a beach made of sand and gravel, surrounded by a cliff that can be easily explored on foot.
